Where chop bar meets Ghanaian restaurant
Ash : Mazera is located in the back of Osu. From Papaye on the main Osu road, go down towards Forico mall. At the end of the road take a right and Mazera is standing in its glory at the end of the road.
Dede: After my sterling parallel parking, holla at your girl if you need some lessons. We opted to sit upstairs because upstairs has AC and this heat is unbearable. Upstairs prices are however more expensive by a cedi or two so you are literally playing for that AC. I can't blame them though, ECG isn't playing any games with the electricity bill either.
Ash: Mazera is a joint my people. Like its the point where chop bar meets restaurant. It is the authentic chop bar experience for all you bougie people.
Dede: The setup is like those restaurants in Ghanaian films with the mats with fruits on them and the soap on the table. It's a chopbar set up with AC.
Ash: Dede is rude (crying emoji). I quite liked the setup, while it really did mirror the Ghanaian movie restaurant vibe we were blessed to share our table with this (I believe to be foreign Ghanaian) who paid Ghc15 of our bill because we are bloggers who make no money. Sweetest man ever. Anyway we ordered Banku and Okro and gari foto and grilled tilapia.
Dede: I didn't say I didn't like the setup though. I was there for the Banku and Okro since I've heard this is one of the places to get the best banku and okro in Ghana. Ash on the other hand, wanted us to have banku and tilapia. Hello, where there do that at? But because I am the oldest as you all know, Banku and Okro it was. We also ordered gari foto and tilapia. Actually not we, Ash did. Honestly, I think I have to revoke Ashley's ability to order card. Everyday gari foto.
Ash: To be fair, up until this trip I always went to Mazera for their Banku and Tilapia. I wanted Dede to try their tilapia because it's a popping kinda tilapia. Also I've been on this gari foto craze that don't be making any sense, but ya know The Banku and Okro was the winner of the day.
Dede: No sense at all. The Banku was so good. It was so soft and didn't smell have that strong corn dough smell that some do. The okro soup came out steaming hot so don't be a funcho and dip your fingers straight into it. Be like Dede and test the waters first. We got it with smoked fish and crab which was never what I expected. I was looking for tuna fish but since I am not acquainted with my friends under the sea, the fish we got was never what I imagined. The soup came with tolobeef as well. I will agree that this is hands down one of the best Banku and okro in Ghana. Unless you guys beg to differ and you have some area connect, just leave one cute comment cause sharing is caring.
Ash: Banku and Okro has been my favorite food (not just Ghanaian food, international too) for as long as I can remember. My friends mum used to make it for me everytime I went to their house. Long telephone is where it's at. And I can very boldly give Mazera about 4.8 stars on that Banku and Okro. It was popping! Dede failed with that smoked fish, I thought she knew what she was doing but seeing as I had gone to fight for Tilapia, I allowed her.
Dede: For this gari foto, Ashley can't order for the next month. It was an absolute no. It looked like stir fry gari foto. Vegetable and gari ratio was 50:50. It was dry and the veggies just kept getting in the way. I was so sad because I wish I could have just gone home with the memory of the Banku. I don't remember much about the tilapia actually. I think I had a bite and I pushed the plate towards the Aunty who won't be ordering for Accra Craves again.
Ash: Honestly, the fail with the tilapia was that we spent so much time eating the Banku it was lukewarm when we went to eat it. The flavor that is usually infused throughout the tilapia was only on the skin, which made it soo meh to eat. It is my goal to take Dede back and have her try that tilapia again because I stand by my assertion that Mazera plates the best Tilapia in Accra. That gari foto was interesting. Don't mind Dede, I ordered again the next day.
Dede: Do go to Mazera to perfect your parallel parking skills and for the Banku and okro soup. Kindly stay away from the pineapple ginger juice sometimes just drink water.
Ash: Please do try the tilapia too. But eat it hot and steamy.
