Cafe Mondo on that new new vibe. We wrote about them a while back here . They've revamped, renovated, re-everything. We got invited in to sample their new new menu and let them know what we think. Location hasn't changed, it's still on the metro tv road
Dede: The last time I went to Cafe Mondo was the last post we wrote and I wasn't blown away by the menu or anything we got so I went in with low expectations to say the least.
Ash: I actually quite like their sandwiches, they're yum and its close to my office. So its an easy breakie pick up for meeee!
Dede: First of all, special shoutout to Chef, he's super sweet and super attentive and up for suggestions.
Ash: Dede he's not a chef ohh, that was the owner my gal!
Dede: Ooops, soz soz. Anyways, I ordered the mango and pineapple smoothie for drinks. It was fresh mango and pineapple. The mango was a bit tarty as per we are out of mango season so couldn't really blame anyone expect for mother nature. It's super filling so it will serve well as a healthy midday snack during mango season.
Ash: I always go with the orange and pineapple. Honestly, I'm an oranpine girl. Cafe Mondo fresh juices are the real deal, they are fresh, fresher than fresh and some way I almost always get sweet oranges, none of that bitter stuff. They really do pick their oranges.
Dede: For starters, since Ashley's eyes are bigger than her stomach, we got 3. The pita bread was freshly baked and you guys know I have a bread fetish. I was just smiling and munching into that bread. The hummus was quite salty and definitely didn't make it into my top 3 favs.
Ash: Eyes forever bigger than my stomach, I can't even lie. I love lebanese food, no lie and hummus for me sits at the top of that pyramid. I'll order it on any menu. Anyway, this hummus kind of fell flat for me, mainly because there was just waay to much salt. Other than that the consistency was good and the olive oil was yum!
Dede: The fish fingers actually tasted like real fish. You guys know what I mean. There are some fish fingers out there that taste like a distant cousin of the fish family. The tartar sauce was thick and creamy and a perfect compliment to these fingers.
Ash: That tartar sauce was bae. As in yummy on a 100! I was soo in love with this, I love love fish fingers and to get the real deal here. I was in heaven, if you grew up on fish fingers, this is it. It's back and its so so good.
Dede: You guys!! This was the winner, hands down. No challenger. The avosalmon is my favorite favorite dish on the the new new Cafe mondo menu. The salmon is fresh, the lemon drizzle isn't overpowering, the guac at the bottom is mashed to perfection and the bread it is seated on is not too soft and not too hard. Perfect guys. It was so yummy and super filling. When I saw it, I judged the size to prize ratio but when I bit into it, the sandwich defended itself.
Ash: It's the perfect combination of avocado and salmon. No dispute, it was 10/10. This is definitely a MUST TRY for any and everyone.
Dede: A message from the sponsors we do not have : The picture below is just for artistic purposes.
Dede: Honestly, I didn't make space in my stomach for this Caesar salad. That was all Ash and let's do it for Accra Craves. It was basic. The chicken was well marinated with a spicy kick to it but the vinaigrette was salty. It's amazing how too much salt can take a meal from a solid 10 to a 1, real real quick.
Ash: That's actually so true, to over season is just as bad as to under season. Actually, I think its worse. I initially thought the chicken was salty but then we realized it was the caesar dressing that just was too salty. And as we had drizzled it for photoo effect, the salad became a little hard to eat. I do love my salads and this was light and refreshing. Lettuce was crisp, cheese was yummy and the chicken was flavored nicely. I'd give this salad a good 7.5, but the salty caesar drops it to a solid 5 in my books.
Dede: The beef stir fry didn't work for me. The pasta was too soft and the beef sauce wasn't flavorful enough. It wasn't one big stir fry family for me, every ingredient was being a diva.
Ash: Absolute no from me. I really don't like food that is just overpowered by the veg. I wasn't really a fan of the beef either. This dish was a one bite, no wonder for me. I was not taking any more bites after my tasting. It was dry and the noodles were tasting like veg too, the components didn't come together to have one harmonious taste in my mouth, it was just separate tastes that didn't work too well together.
Ash: So we got the four seasons pizza so that we could try all the different flavors for you in one go.
Dede: We sure did as per Ash's big big eyes. I ordered it but she hyped me.
Ash: The ham and chicken slices were my personal favorite. It was pizza, definitely better than Eddy's and Papa's, plus at that amazing price point, I was imagining my pizza lunches at Cafe Mondo.
Dede: The chicken was my favorite, spicy but not too spicy, just the right kick. The ham was a negative for me. There was something about the taste and texture that was off putting. It worked for Ashley, I don't even know how but for me, daabi daabi issano.
Ash: The pepperoni and beef slices didn't work as well for me. Firstly it wasn't pepperoni in the traditional sense, I believe it was a sausage pepperoni, which meant the texture was off and would be weird to anyone coming in with the pepperoni mindset. Funny thing is, I said to Dede, I really hope this is actual pepperoni and not salami or anything else. Jokes on me.
Dede: For real, Ash was like I hope it's no pepperoni's cousin. She jinxed us. It was an interesting texture, very soft and mushy and not for me. I'll rather stick to the mainstream pepperoni.
Ash: The beef slice was just a no from me. I think firstly it was just a preference thing - beef on a pizza means minced beef to me, that's my personal preference but I guess some other people like strips, so can't fault Cafe Mondo on that one. But I didn't really like the seasoning on it either, it was the same seasoning on the beef from the noodles and your babe wasn't here for it. But worst of all I got very bitter bites towards the center of the slice, which just put me off completely, I really did feel like my experience started at a ridiculous high and had dropped to below low.
Dede: TBH, I didn't taste this one. Take Ash's word on it.
Ash: But then they gave us these desserts and my guy! WOW! It's a complete foodgasm! Like I try to stay away from too many calories - lies but whatever - but this I gobbled down right to the bottom. I finally understood Dede's "there's always space for dessert." There was cream, the ice cream and chocolate and caramel. Jesus Lord, it worked, it worked so well, I had a happy foodie smile plastered across my face.
Dede: There's always space for dessert. Always and forever. There was sure space for this dessert. I don't like chocolate ice cream but this combo wasn't a chocolate overload. It was so yummy, I didn't even question whether is was fanice so you know that's real.
Disclaimer: No shade to fanice but I've been eating it for all 18 years of my life and mans tired please
